- “Illegal Transactions in the Digital Age: Emerging Practices and Regulatory Intermediaries in Latin America”
The project is a collaboration between the Center for Latin American Studies / the SHSS (Prof. Dr. Matías Dewey), the School of Economics and Political Science (SEPS-HSG) – Universität St.Gallen (Prof. Dr. Roy Gava), and the Law School (LS-HSG) / ILE (Prof. Dr. Mariana Valente). Over the next four years, they will look into emerging practices and the role of digital platforms and fintech in markets for drugs, counterfeit products, and child sexual abuse material in Latin America. The research approaches digital platforms and fintech as regulatory intermediaries, and uses Latin America’s vantage point to discuss the process through which they become stakeholders upon which states depend for enforcement.
